Emma's First Trip to the Dentist

Today was Emma's first official dentist appointment. We did have an appointment scheduled for last fall, but something happened and I didn't have a sitter for Noah, so we didn't go. And she's been on the wait list since then and this was the first time it's worked out so that we could go. I felt like I needed to be there for her a hundred percent for her first dentist appointment, so I didn't want him with us. Going to the dentist was always pretty traumatizing for me when I was little, so I was scared it was going to be the same for her.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

I had an appointment to get my teeth cleaned this morning, so she went with me for that and she was so intrigued by the whole thing. She sat on the stool opposite the hygienist the whole time she was scraping, flossing, and scrubbing my teeth and watched very intently every little thing she did. She did keep asking me, "Are you okay, mom?" And as soon as I reassured her that I was fine, she acted very nonchalant about the whole thing.

So, this afternoon, I took her back for her first cleaning.

She felt very spunky about getting her teeth looked at. This was on the sidewalk in front of the office, before we went in...

She found the Dora the Explorer dentist book that she has at home, so she was very involved in reading that and looking at what she was going to have done to her...

I really could not believe how relaxed she was throughout the whole process. It took like a third the time to clean her teeth as it did mine. I really have got to get more diligent about flossing. I really hate flossing. I always cut my gums, then they throb for hours, so I'll readily admit that I really only floss a few times a month at best.. and really, that's probably an exaggeration for most months...
She loved the cool glasses she got to wear. I don't know why the adult glasses can't be that cute. The glasses I have to wear look like the ones they sent my grandma home with after cataract surgery. What's up with that?

Showing off her super clean pearly whites...
Emma with Dr. David. He's the absolute best dentist ever. Seriously. So kind and gentle. I totally don't get myself all worked up having to go see him. He's the greatest, so Emma loved him too. And this picture below has got to be one of my all-time favorites! Can't you just see how much she loved being there having everything be ALL ABOUT her?!?

I just can't believe how relaxed she was. She was totally cool with all those poking and prodding instruments in her mouth!

Dr. David said her teeth look absoutely perfect. I've been a little worried about all the extra space between each of her teeth, but he said that's exactly what they like to see. It means her adult teeth have plenty of room to grow in. He asked me if I'd had to have braces and I told him "NO". He said she probably won't have to have them either, based on what he sees of her teeth right now. WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
That's several thousand dollars saved.. hopefully... I'd better watch what I say, I may jinx us...
p.s. these pics were all taken with my NEW camera.... AND my doctor was so intrigued by my camera, we got to talking photography and he even took a few pics with my camera! It was so exciting... I even gave him one of my cards!!! :)
