This sounds SO out there to me. I would NEVER think something like this would actually affect your skin, but this was on a news site. And I looked it up on snopes and they said nothing about it, so until I hear otherwise, I'm counting this as one possibility.
All of the lightbulbs in my house are these low-energy ones. I made a point of it when we moved in and were building this house for them to be put everywhere. And they really are low energy. I have probably only changed one or two lightbulbs the entire time we've lived in this house.
What do you think? Doesn't this sound far fetched?
Oh, and if any of you have any ideas, PLEASE offer them up!
Low-Energy Light Bulbs Can Cause Rashes

The traditional incandescent light bulb, which has been the staple in homes to banish darkness for over a hundred years, may be disappearing, and the low-energy light bulb that takes its place can cause rashes and swelling for thousands of people.
New, low-energy, compact fluorescent bulbs use just 30 percent of the energy of incandescent bulbs. Green-minded organizations, as well as the U.S. government and mega-retailer Walmart, are promoting their use, emphasizing their overall money-saving features despite their higher initial cost. Some countries, including Great Britain, are banning the use of traditional light bulbs by 2012.
But in addition to the concerns over mercury pollution that broken compact bulbs present, Dr. Robert Sarkany, a photodermatologist at St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, St. Thomas’ Hospital in London told the Daily Mail that he’s treated patients who have skin rashes due to exposure to low-light fluorescent bulbs.
Other doctors worry that the new bulbs could even cause skin cancer. “It is important that patients with photosensitive skin eruptions are allowed to use lights that don’t exacerbate their condition,” said Dr. Colin Holden, president of the British Association of Dermatologists. “Photosensitive eruptions range from disabling eczema-like reactions, to light sensitivities that can lead to skin cancer.”
Those who have lupus and some forms of dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis are at risk, and British charities say that the light from low-energy light bulbs also triggers migraines and epilepsy. Sufferers have appealed to Parliament to exempt them from having to use the new bulbs.
In the U.S., laws passed by Congress demand that all light bulbs be 25 percent to 35 percent more efficient by 2014, citing $40 billion in savings between 2012 and 3040, and the need for 14 fewer coal-fired power plants
I wonder what about these bulbs causes a rash in some people? I'm thinking that if this was the cause of mine, I should've come about before now, but who knows. I mean, this rash popped up as a single little bump in December and it has just progressively gotten worse since then. And we had lived in this house for a year on December 1st.
Who knows, but I'm certainly going to ask the dermatologist about it when I go back for my follow-up appointment.

I would definitely ask about that..it does not seem far fetched! To me it seems everything they try to do to make things better, have worse side effects than ever...idk!
That is really crazy baby...I just don't see how that could do it unless you had the light right beside you for along time if even it does cause irritation. I mean none of our light are right next to you and the ones that are have a lamp shade. I'm so sorry it won't go away:(
UGH, i thought I would have beat tony to the punch on this one...dang him.
i believe it...every bit of it. but only because i like drama and it makes for a good story. i can't believe snopes doesn't have anything on it. hmmmm...
Yeah, I'm not buying it. Is your rash even in a spot that has constant exposure and even if it is, it would have shown up before the year. What type of cream are you using? Maybe you need an anti-fungal cream mixed with a steroid. I don't know, but I hate that you're going through this.
Good luck!
Sorry!!!! How frustrating! I think that your light bulbs are making you break out with this rash. You should just go all amish, and get rid of all your electricty all together!
But my friend has a similar problem, she has had her rash every since her daughter was about 6mths old, and she is 3yrs old now. She has been too SOOOOOO many doctors and specialist, and been tested left and right, and NOBODY can tell her what her rash is or how it was caused. It itches her like crazy and it spreads too. They thought she even had a form of leprosy, no joke!!!! But it came back that she didn't.
Good luck! I hope you can get rid of it soon:)
